History Woodward Field, affectionately known as “Camden” and goes by the FAA identifier of KCDN came into existence in 1929 when philanthropist and equestrian Ernest Woodward donated 160 acres of land to the county of Kershaw for an airport. Mr. Woodward and his brother were known for developing Jell-O. On March 22, 1941, the US Army Air Corps, the predecessor to the US Air Force, realizing the need for an airfield for basic training, activated Woodward Field. Fairchild PT-19s, Boeing PT-17s, and Curtius P-40 Warhawks were assigned to the base and used to train American, British, and Canadian pilots. The airbase was returned to civil control after August 4, 1944. A number of hangars and buildings from its time as an airbase still stand at Woodward Field. Today Woodward Field now covers 396 acres and has two, crossing runways, 6/24 is 5000 x 100 ft and 14/32 2998 x 100 ft of well-maintained concrete. In addition to the two runways, a large ramp area is available for parking with both 100LL and JET-A fuel available, as well as major airframe and powerplant services. (As always, check before arriving if the services are available when you arrive.) The airport hosts a number of yearly events such as a Santa Claus fly-in, Toys-4-Tots fly-in toy drive, antique airplane fly-in, car rallies, Irish festival, and more. If you have a business that is looking for a place to build a new facility adjacent to an airport, we suggest you contact the Camden Airport Manager at (803) 729-0925. https://www.airnav.com/airport/KCDN
