Founder
Mike started CAN on Facebook with the goal of building a family friendly aviation community. He is married to Barbara and they live at Kirk Airbase (T73) near Lancaster, SC. Mike and Barbara are very active at Covenant Baptist Church in Lancaster. Mike is a retired USAF pilot, having been a pilot/instructor in T-38, A-10 and F-16 aircraft. He holds Commercial Instrument Multi and CFI/CFII certification. These days Mike enjoys flying (often with his wife) and meeting CAN members at flying events or favorite airport restaurants. Look for the old guy flying the Piper Tomahawk!
President
Erica began her flight training (unconventionally) in a ‘46 Aeronca Champ, earning her tailwheel first, then transitioning to a Cessna 172 to finish up her private pilot. Immediately after, she started instrument training in a club Mooney M20J. To build the required flight hours, she took a two-week-long 7,331 nm trip around the perimeter of the United States in the M20J. Erica is now a commercial pilot working toward her flight instructor certificate. She lives at Long Island Airpark with her husband, and 3-year-old son, and their Comanche 260B and Aeronca 7DC Champ.
Vice President
Leeanna’s love of aviation dates back to a family home across the street from an airport in southern Michigan. She would later also begin her career at that same airport as a line technician and never looked back. After graduating from Western Michigan University’s Aviation Administration program, she moved to NC and began working at Elite Aircraft Services. She currently serves as the Vice President of Technical Operations at Elite. While her focus has primarily been on the corporate side of aviation, she enjoys traveling to airshows, talking airplanes with anyone who will listen and educating kids and young adults on the amazing opportunities available in our industry.
Director, Communications
Stephen is local to the Charlotte, NC area. Currently a commercially rated pilot, working to make a career out of flying. He flies out of Goose Creek Airpark (28A) and Rock Hill-York County Airport (KUZA). Stephen works for American Airlines at Charlotte Douglas, was a former board member for The Machinist Aviation Labor Union, and even runs Wonder Wash of Charlotte pressure washing company to pay for his flight training. Stephen decided years ago to “make every day about airplanes” and he truly does what he can! He hopes in 2025 to get his Certified Flight Instructor rating, Multi Engine endorsement and eventually find a job being paid to fly!
Director
Bill had been flying since the mid-80’s when he learned in a then brand new C152. While never a professional pilot, he has amassed time in 99 different makes and models of single engine land aircraft and is looking for something special to check off #100. In that time, he has been involved with the EAA as a technical advisor, chapter director, and finally chapter president. Bill has also served as the State Liaison for the Recreational Aviation Foundation. He has been a contributing editor for KitPlanes magazine for over 10 years where he’s written flight reviews and technical articles. You may find him flying the RV-9 he built with the help of his wife Nora. The RV-9 is older than his son Turner, who often accompanies him on flights around the Carolinas.
